Steel tubular piling: foundations for challenging conditions

Driven steel tubular piles are an alternative to pre-cast concrete piles, used to address particularly aggressive or complex ground conditions such as dense made ground, or where keying into rock is necessary.

Strong and adaptable

Steel tubular piles can be adjusted on-site for depth and driving method, making them ideal for a range of projects.

Using displacement rather than digging a hole, they do not produce site spoil during installation, making them a great option for sites with contamination.

These piles perform reliably in mixed, dense, or obstructed ground where other methods may struggle.

Advanced installation process

Our installation process uses modern rigs equipped with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) instrumentation. This technology monitors key parameters such as pile depth, penetration rate, drill resistance, concreting pressure, and extraction rate, which allows for efficient control throughout the installation process.

Quality assurance

Every steel tubular pile we supply is cut, welded, and installed to meet the exact demands of your site. Whether you need open-ended or closed-end piles, we tailor the specification to ground conditions, load requirements, and access constraints for a strong, accurate fit every time.

We apply the same rigorous health and safety protocols across all piling operations. Our crews are fully trained, our rigs are safety-checked before every deployment, and our site procedures are backed by leading industry accreditations.

Steel tubular piles generate zero soil arisings, cutting waste and reducing the need for disposal. We also prioritise the use of recyclable materials and low-impact installation methods, helping you meet environmental targets without compromising performance.

Frequently asked questions about tubular steel driven piles

Can’t find the answer to your question? Get In Touch with our expert team.

Steel tubular piles are used to support structures where ground conditions are tough or where high load capacity is needed. They’re common in infrastructure, marine, rail, energy, and industrial projects. Their strength and ability to be driven into challenging ground make them ideal for permanent or temporary foundations, retaining walls and deep foundations.

Steel tubular piles are driven into the ground using hydraulic hammers or vibratory rigs, depending on ground conditions and site requirements. They can be installed open-ended or closed-end with a driving shoe or concrete plug. The pile length can be extended by welding or jointing additional sections on site. Once installed to depth, piles can be filled with concrete or reinforced as needed for structural performance.

It depends on your ground conditions, load requirements, environmental constraints and access. Steel piles offer flexibility, strength and zero spoil, while concrete piles are often preferred for softer ground or where noise and vibration are concerns. For tailored advice, get in touch with our expert team; we’ll recommend the best option based on your site and design needs.
