Piled retaining walls: fast & effective excavation

Steel sheet retaining walls provide countless benefits compared to reinforced concrete walls. Not only are they faster and more cost-effective to install, they’re much narrower, allowing for installation close up to the site boundary which therefore maximises usable site space.

Rapid installation

Installation time for piled retaining walls is minimal, making it a great option for time-sensitive construction projects.

We can design and fabricate retaining walls to your exact specifications. Plus, exposed sheet piles can be shot-blasted and painted for an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Our engineers can meet your unique design specifications, including retaining walls designed in accordance with relative Highways Agency or Network Rail standards.

Advanced installation process

Our installation process uses modern rigs equipped with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) instrumentation. This technology monitors key parameters such as pile depth, penetration rate, drill resistance, concreting pressure, and extraction rate, which allows for efficient control throughout the installation process.

Quality assurance

Whether you’re constructing basement walls, embankment stabilisation, or landscape terracing, every retaining wall we design is bespoke. We factor in soil conditions, loading requirements, drainage, site access, and sustainability goals for practical, buildable solutions that stand the test of time.

From the initial concept through to construction, health and safety is embedded in everything we do. Our retaining wall systems are fully compliant with current regulations, and our team is trained in CDM standards, ensuring a safe, controlled installation process.

We design retaining walls with sustainability in mind from day one. This includes selecting low-carbon materials where possible and optimising wall geometry to reduce the amount of waste produced.

A piled retaining wall is a type of retaining wall that uses vertical piles to support and hold back soil, water, or other materials. These piles are driven or drilled deep into the ground and can be connected by beams or boards to form a continuous wall. These walls are then used to ‘retain’ (or hold back) a substance, such as earth, water or filling material, or as excavation support.

Piled retaining walls are commonly used in situations where strong support is needed for excavation, slopes, or waterfronts. Check out our case studies or get in touch to see how we can support your project.

We offer three key types of retaining walls. Continuous piled walls are formed by a line of closely arranged piles in a line and are commonly used for excavation support and slope stabilisation.

Secant pile walls, on the other hand, consist of overlapping piles to form a water-tight structure, which makes them an ideal option for water cut off in drainage channels.

Finally, king post walls are a cost-effective retention method that uses beams and precast concrete panels and are often used for basements, embankment retention and flood defence walls.

With decades of industry expertise and a complete in-house team, Green Piling offers end-to-end solutions that deliver real results on site. Our integrated approach to design and installation ensures each retaining wall is engineered for buildability, safety and efficiency. By managing every stage under one roof, we streamline communication, reduce costs and eliminate delays.
