CFA piling: the all-rounder foundation

Thanks to its virtually vibration-free installation, CFA is one of the most common types of foundation pile in the UK.

Low levels of disruption

Perfect for environmentally friendly areas, as little noise and negligible vibration is generated.

Continuous process with no casing required, allowing for faster project completion.

Suitable for most soil conditions and construction projects, including those requiring compression, tension, and horizontal load handling.

Advanced installation process

Our installation process uses modern rigs equipped with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) instrumentation. This technology monitors key parameters such as pile depth, penetration rate, drill resistance, concreting pressure, and extraction rate, which allows for efficient control throughout the installation process.

Quality assurance

The maximum achievable pile capacity varies from site to site, depending on factors such as regional geology, groundwater conditions, site history, sulphate conditions, and working constraints. We ensure our designs and installations meet the highest standards of quality and safety, tailored to your project’s specific requirements. Plus, all rigs are fitted with computers to monitor concrete depth.

We meet all the safety and quality requirements you would expect from a leading piling contractor and manufacturer of piling and beams through our safety first culture – and we’ve got the accreditations to back them up.

We’re committed to making the right choices for a sustainable future. We do everything we can to ensure our CFA piling has the lowest possible impact on the environment, creating a lasting foundation for decades to come.

CFA piling is a technique used in construction to install deep foundations in a range of ground conditions. First used in the UK in the 1960s, this is now one of the most popular foundation piling options for construction and groundwork projects thanks to its fast and quiet installation and suitability for a range of soil types.

CFA piles are most commonly used for structural foundations in construction projects, providing earth retention on site boundaries and preventing landslides. They’re particularly common in urban or environmentally-sensitive areas thanks to their minimally disruptive installation.

We install CFA piles by rotating a hollow stem continuous flight auger into the ground to the desired depth. We then pump concrete through the stem to fill the hollow cavity before slowly removing the auger. A steel reinforcing cage is then inserted into the concrete to strengthen the piles, which is particularly important for poor soil conditions.

With more than 25 years of expertise, we’re a leading UK specialist in CFA piling. Our in-house design and estimating team alongside our purpose-built manufacturing facility allow us to serve a range of sectors, helping deliver successful projects of all sizes. With Green Piling, you get a transparent, honest service, backed by the highest standards of quality, health and safety. Find out more about us here.
