Steel tubular piles were chosen for this project due to the site being located directly above an old quarry high wall. Cobbles and boulders were present in the soils, therefore steel tubular piles presented as the most economical solution as high strength tubes could penetrate through the cobbles and boulders without damage to the pile.
Piles were driven to the bedrock with the off-cut used to start the next pile, therefore there was minimal waste and cost savings.
