Green Piling designed, supplied and installed reclaimed steel tubular piles to form part of the foundations for a new Shopping Centre in Ayr.

Steel piles were chosen due to pile capacities required, obstructions showing in the site investigation report and the variable lengths of the piles to be installed would mean excessive waste if other piling types were used. Steel tubular piles were cut down once driven to set, with the offcut reused to start the next pile.

Due to the close proximity of the piling works to existing buildings, continuous vibration monitoring was required throughout the project. At no time had the piling operation to be suspended due to excessive vibration.

Working closely with the Engineers, Green Piling proposed an alternative piling layout which comprised of installing a total of 1311 piles using 244mm and 340mm diameter piles to support working loads of up to 700kN, and with significant horizontal and tension. Green Piling also undertook the cutting down and testing of the piles.
